Guided tour of Edinburgh

The “main event” of our first day in Edinburgh, thanks to our friends there, because I don’t think we probably wouldn’t even have considered it otherwise, was the guided tour of the city. At this point, I also have to say that the tours itself are free, but you can give a small donation to your guide (where you decide how much the tour was worth to you), since they get paid from those donations. They also offer a wide range of languages in which the tours are led, so you can also choose a guide who might speak your language, instead of English.

Our guide, Eva, you can also find her on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/postcardfromanywhere_/), during the tour really told us a lot about the city and it’s vast history. I must say that my initial thoughts, at the beginning of the tour, were: “Why did we have to take the tour, I’m not really that interested, why do we have to walk around with a guide” etc., but after just a few minutes into it, my thoughts completely changed, because of how interesting the tour was starting to get, which was all thanks to Eva. Her way of explaining, telling stories from everyday lives in the past and presenting the history of the city was genuinely entertaining and had us all laughing a lot of times in those roughly 2 hours spent on the tour. She gladly answered all of our questions, and gave us a few tips on what else we’d have to go see while we were there.

I have worked with a lot of tourist guides during my years working at Ljubljana Castle, but in my opinion, Eva most certainly tops all of them, so I recommend anyone who thinks about or is actually going to Edinburgh, that they join one of the tours, where you will get a lot more insight into the history and other interesting facts about the city of Edinburgh.
