The journey comes to an end.

Every story, let it be a good or a bad one, it has to have an end, and the same could be said for our trip to Berlin. Those of you that have followed our adventures from the beginning already know that we spent some time in Venice as well, but the main thing was the capital city of Germany. This post is going to focus on the last day spent there, and the happenings after landing at Marco Polo airport again.

Since we already crossed basically all of the things off of our “to-do list” yesterday, I haven’t had any good ideas what else we could go see. I had some other sights saved in my Google Maps Berlin list, but most of them were either quite far away or it would’ve taken too long to see everything there. Besides that, we were all starting to get pretty tired as well, so for the last day the plan was to just wander around Berlin for a bit and then get to the airport and wait for our flight.

Another wish that came true on this trip was my mother’s wish to get some spaghetti eis, which is just a normal ice cream that goes through a special machine to make it look like real spaghetti. I managed to find an italian ice cream place in Berlin’s Arcaden shopping centre. The place is called Caffé e Gelato, and it already tells you what they have to offer. The spaghetti eis was delicious, not that expensive, considering everything, but having fullfiled another wish with that was priceless.

After that I decided that I want to go see the Berlin Story Bunker museum.

The entrance to Berlin Story Bunker.

The World War II (WW2) history is very intriguing to me, and one part of the museum presents only the history and the life of Adolf Hitler, how he came to power and how he lived out his last days. The museum is placed in an actual WW2 bunker, with not many things being changed after it closed down. The exhibition is interesting, but not one that would really fascinate me. Probably the most interesting part, at least for me, was the reconstruction of the Fuhrer bunker, where Hitler and some other important people of the time died at the end of WW2. There’s so many things to see and read on the exhibition, that if you really took the time to go through it all, you could spend a lot longer than I did in there. Because I was getting tired already, as I’ve said, so the focus wasn’t really there anymore. I spent roughly an hour inside. Unfortunately, you’re not allowed to take any photos inside, so I can’t show you what it looks like.

After all of that, it was time to head back to our motel, get our bags and straight to the airport. By that time we already knew that our flight was going to be delayed, and that fact added a little more nervousness to the day. We arrived at the Berlin Tegel airport with roughly 5 hours to spare before our original departure time. One last thing to try was the currywurst. We’ve been talking about it all the time, but never took the time to actually try it, until the last possible time, at the airport before leaving the city. 😀

Currywurst.

Since the flight got delayed for over an hour in the end, we missed our bus to take us back home yesterday. It was the last bus of the day, so we had to wait around 7 hours for the first one in the morning to depart for Ljubljana. At the time when we got home, we’ve been awake for 30 hours, give or take, but never mind that, that is the cost of traveling.

Now that I got some rest finally, I took some time to finish the post which I started writing yesterday, but with all that was going on, my mind was completely focused on other things and not on the writing. This post might be a bit shorter than the previous ones, but not a lot was going on anyway.

There are still a few things left I have only briefly mentioned in my posts but never explained them further, that’s coming up in the next few days/weeks, when everything calms down a bit and when I go through all the photos again and gather my thoughts, so click that follow button and keep an eye out for more content on Berlin. 🙂
