Sim racers assemble!

The main event of this first part of my trip, as I’ve already mentioned, has been the Sim Racing Expo here in Dortmund. I was thinking about the way how to start this post, and I realised I haven’t really explained what sim racing actually is. Some of you may have figured it out by now, or if you have been following me elsewhere, already know about it, but still.

Sim racing, or simulation racing one could call it, could be classified under gaming, racing cars, and other people, on race tracks in the virtual world. You have many different racing simulators, companies that sell the equipment used for sim racing and many other things, and that is what was on display at the Sim Racing Expo.

It is the best place to try out different pieces of equipment, from all the major brands in the industry, test it all out in many different games and racing modes, but at the end of the day, it’s also a great event to bring people together, the ones interested in sim racing, of course. Like I mentioned, if it wasn’t for this event, and me deciding to actually attend, I wouldn’t have met many of the people I only met online, until now, but it was great to be able to put faces to the names I was seeing on my screen when racing.

The day started relatively early, to meet up with a few friends, get some breakfast and head to the arena where the expo has been held. Despite what I’m like, with trying to see as much as I can in as little a time as possible, we stayed in the arena the whole day, from 10 in the morning when the doors opened, until 6 in the afternoon when they were closing up for the day. Yeah, I did fly through every single stand that was on display at first, just to see what was on offer, but once that initial excitement died down, it was time to properly dig into it and try a few things.

A sim racing rig.

We have tried a few different sim racing rigs – with the wheels and pedals – that they had set up, and it was just amazing to try out different equipment to what I’m used to using at home. Apart from all of that, there were many race cars on display at some of the stands, which made things even better for me. One of the highlights of the day, for me personally, has also been the moment when I actually sat in one of the real world race cars, and seeing what it looks like on the inside. The feeling cannot be put into words, or at least I’m not able to find them right now.

Inside a real race car.

As the whole day wasn’t that eventful, in terms of many different things happening, this post isn’t all that long, unlike the previous ones. However, that is about to change tomorrow, as we are leaving Dortmund, this time I’ll be jumping in a car, but where are we headed this time will remain a secret until tomorrow, so as usual, stay tuned and follow for all the other post coming your way still!
