Scotland, part 3

We continue our journey on the way to Oban. We had quite a long way to go from Isle of Skye, and there were a few places we wanted to see on the way, but in the end we only decided to stop at Glencoe Lochan, since we wanted to see Oban that evening at least a little as well. We had to get up really early the next morning, because we had to drop the car off before 9am, and the drive to Glasgow takes around 2.5 hours.

For those of you that don’t know, Oban is a lovely coastal town on the country’s west coast. As it’s not such a big town, there’s not a lot to see, to be honest. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth a visit, if you happen to find yourself in the area. We climbed up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, which you can see on the cover photo of this post. But personally, the town got really beautiful once the sun went down as you can see on this photo below.

As mentioned before, we left Oban pretty early in the morning. Our final destination, or so we thought at the time, was Glasgow. Getting there so early in the morning meant we had quite a lot of time before we got the keys to our apartment for the two nights we stayed there, which gave us a bit of a problem with our suitcases, but it all turned out okay at the end. We took a short walk through the city centre, but comparing that to Edinburgh, which we all liked very much, it wasn’t as beautiful. So for the next day we decided to take the bus back to Edinburgh, we wanted to do some souvenir shopping there and just spend the day in a city we all knew and liked.

Unfortunately, the weather started to get worse while we were there. I was just kidding at the time, saying that for our first eight days the weather was perfect, but on the day we needed it to be at least good enough, it took a turn for the worse. The next morning we woke up to streets covered in snow, but still we weren’t expecting any problems with getting to the airport and back home. And boy, were we wrong! All the buses were suspended right as we were suppose to leave Glasgow. Luckily we got a taxi to take us to Edinburgh airport, although the driver wasn’t very happy about it. As you can imagine, we didn’t get home that day, our flight was cancelled and we were stuck in Edinburgh. Two days later we thought we were going to make it off the island and back to continental Europe, but that didn’t happen either. Luckily, I found a way home the next day, while my friends went home two days later than me. I couldn’t stay there for that long because of my job, and they could’ve come with me but decided to play it safe and stay there those extra two days.

So that will conclude my review of the trip and what it was like, all there’s left for me to explain is the food, the accommodation and any other small detail I might have forgotten to mention in these three or four posts. That will be coming soon as well, but until then, enjoy your weekend! 🙂
